What Port Aransas and Rockport do to a window
Port Aransas is on the north end of Mustang Island, with the Gulf on one side, the ship channel and Lydia Ann Channel on the other, and the ferry landing in between. The wind here is as steady as anywhere on the Texas coast, and it carries salt and fine sand up the beach access roads and across the whole town. Gulf-facing glass at Cinnamon Shore and the beach houses along the dunes hazes over within a week or two, and the canal and marina homes in Island Moorings pick up spray and boat exhaust on top of the salt. Sand works into every slider track on the island.
Rockport sits on Aransas Bay and Copano Bay, up Highway 35 from the island, and it is a bay town rather than a beach town. The salt is a little softer, but the wind across the bay keeps it constant on the waterfront homes along Fulton Beach Road, the Key Allegro canals and the streets near Rockport Beach. Both towns were hit directly by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, and a great deal of the glass in Port Aransas and Rockport is new since the rebuild. New windows show salt film and sprinkler spots sooner than old ones do, and construction dust from work still going on nearby settles on them. The live oaks that give Rockport its shade keep the north glass damp and drop pollen all spring.
Most Port Aransas homes do best on a plan that visits every month or two, with the inside glass done once a year. Rockport homes a few streets off the water usually hold a quarterly schedule, and the bayfront and Key Allegro canal homes go to every month or two. Rental owners in both towns have us time the first clean for just before spring break and again before the summer season. How often should windows be cleaned in Port Aransas and Rockport?
Every month or two for Gulf-facing homes on Mustang Island and canal homes in Island Moorings and Key Allegro, because the salt comes back within weeks. Rockport homes a few streets off the bay are fine on a quarterly plan. Most people have the inside glass done once a year.
Do you clean the glass on three-story beach houses in Port Aransas?
Yes. Most of the newer beach houses have a top-floor wall of glass facing the Gulf, and we clean it with water-fed poles from the ground and ladders where needed. Tell us how many stories on the quote form so we bring the right equipment.
My windows are new since Harvey. Do they need anything different?
Not different, but sooner. New glass and new frames show salt film, sprinkler spots and construction dust faster than old glass does, and the coatings on new windows last longer when the salt is not left to sit. A regular plan is the simplest way to protect what went into the rebuild.
